There are so many places to experience in Dayton, Ohio but our favorite place to go as a family may just be Dayton’s best kept secret! It’s a place that sparks curiosity, wonder and excitement – the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. Just across Stillwater River and tucked near local parks, this museum offers patrons a comfortable and interactive science experience from ample parking to diverse exhibits.
Finding activities to do with our daughter that are educational in nature, creative and fun has always been important. Upon stumbling across Boonshoft Museum of Discovery I worried that a museum might be too overwhelming on a weekend for our toddler. My apprehension had no merit! There was plenty of parking near the building and we were greeted by smiling staff that wanted to help us have an exceptional visit. We started our adventure in the planetarium for an excellent Sesame Street show then ventured through the various sensory and water exhibits. In the middle of the lower level children played on a two-level playset! On the second level we enjoyed an interactive learning experience of a car garage, grocery store, pizza shop, vet hospital and more. Our daughter enjoyed playing with the ‘fake’ groceries and seeing how the conveyor belt pulled the items to the end. While it is hard to determine any number of favorite exhibits, two impressive ones were the Discovery Zoo and the MeadWestvaco Treehouse.
Boonshoft Museum of Discovery gets a five-star recommendation from this mom! We have continued to experience happy and engaging staff, clean museum and restrooms, exciting exhibits and reasonable membership with reciprocity to other museums. I hope your family enjoys this one-of-kind museum as much as we have.
