The Loveland Bike Trail, officially known as the Little Miami Scenic State Park, is the perfect place to get outside. Whether we’re out for a brisk morning ride, a leisurely afternoon stroll, or grabbing coffee at one of the many local shops, the trail is one of my favorite places to enjoy everything our community has to offer.
A Trail for Everyone
The Loveland Bike Trail is a true gem in Historic Loveland, stretching a paved, mostly flat path for 70 miles along the beautiful Little Miami River.
With its many connections, it’s part of a network of over 100 miles of scenic trails that wind through Milford, Miami Township, Newtown, and Lebanon. Whether you’re a cyclist, runner, walker, or nature-lover, the trail is accessible and welcoming to all.
Along the way, you’ll find free parking, picnic tables, restrooms, and easy access to the trail from several towns. And if you’re like Cathy and me, you’ll appreciate the abundance of coffee and ice cream shops, restaurants, and entertainment options that make each ride or walk an adventure.
Things to Do Along the Trail
One of my favorite parts of the Loveland Trail is how much there is to explore. Here are a few of the spots Cathy and I always recommend:
Loveland Castle
Yes, a real castle! Built stone-by-stone on the river’s edge, Loveland Castle is a must-see for history buffs and families alike.

Paxton’s Grill
Right on the trail at West Loveland Avenue, Paxton’s Grill is perfect for family dining or a post-ride meal on the outdoor patio. Pro tip: Try The Big Paxton!
Trail Breweries & Taverns
The trail is dotted with welcoming breweries like Narrow Path Brewing Co., which has been a Loveland staple since 2017. Enjoy a craft beer with a view, then hop back on the trail for more adventure.

Hidden Museums, Shops, and Parks
There’s no shortage of unique places to stop, from local museums to small-town shops and riverside parks.

A Walk (or Ride) Through History
As you enjoy the wildlife along the river, like Canadian geese, ducks, and maybe even a bald eagle overhead, it’s fun to remember the trail’s rich history.
The path started as the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1870, with trains running until 1962. Did you know President Abraham Lincoln rode this very railway to his inauguration in 1861? Or that President Woodrow Wilson and the Liberty Bell stopped at Loveland Station in 1916, thrilling local schoolchildren?
Today, the trail is a place where history meets nature. It’s not unusual for Cathy and me to pause and imagine the old steam locomotive chugging along where we now ride our bikes.
