When it comes to elegance, Hyde Park is a Cincinnati neighborhood that’s mastered it. This sought-after suburban neighborhood was owned by businessmen in the late 1800’s, historically referred to as the Mornington Syndicate, who focused on developing an exclusive community for prosperous residents. Now the neighborhood is sprawling with gorgeous residential homes with groomed yards, large avenues and small businesses that create a blueprint for an ideal place to live.
Hyde Park Square
The most notable feature of Hyde Park is its central area for small businesses that makeup the heart of the town. You can walk from your home to Arthur’s for dinner and after, take a few steps and wind up at Graeter’s Ice Cream for dessert. The wide avenues and vast street parking allow for accessibility even if you are not on foot. At all times of the day, you will see people walking along the sidewalks or going for a jog in this active community.
Hyde Park Observatory District
Hyde Park itself is known for celebrating small businesses, and its plaza does not stray away from this. The plaza is known as a slightly more commercial area where chain restaurants seamlessly meet quaint shops. There are grocery stores, bakeries and boutiques that create a blend of places that have just about anything you need.
The seamless blend of these spaces is due to the historic guidelines put into place for the Hyde Park Observatory District. This puts stricter guidelines for new construction projects in Hyde Park which helps guarantee the preservation of the neighborhood, as growth and expansion impact the neighborhood. In the case of commercial areas like the plaza, the architecture is kept to a standard that meets the style of the historic buildings that are already there, which extends into the residential areas as well.
If you ever find yourself driving past the Plaza, down Erie Avenue and through the Square, slow down. The houses along these streets are filled with a variety of homes that will give you a glimpse of gorgeous architecture ranging from Victorian to Tudor, all the way to Contemporary. Old and new, the variety is endless. Apartments for rent, affordable housing and upscale dwellings come together organically, creating opportunities for everyone to make this lovely neighborhood their home.
