As a dog lover and a local REALTOR®, My wife Cathy and I are always on the lookout for great spots to take our dog, Jax, for some fun and adventure. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll in the park or an exciting hike in the great outdoors, there’s no shortage of dog-friendly destinations in our area.
One of our favorite spots to visit with Jax is Heritage Park in Colerain. This park is dog-friendly and even has its own dedicated dog park. It features three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulation-sized baseball fields, with grass infields on two of them. Additionally, the park offers an 18-hole disc golf course, a canoe access ramp onto the Great Miami River, an impressive 1.2 miles of walking trails, a picnic shelter, a playground, and a lovely rain garden.
Another one of our go-to spots is Simmonds Family Dog Park located in Cleves, OH. This park is a result of a collaborative effort between Great Parks Forever, Great Parks of Hamilton County, and the SPCA Cincinnati. It holds the distinction of being the largest public dog park in the region, covering 11 acres of off-leash recreational space. The park features four separate fields, including an all-season playfield, along with trees and structures providing much-needed shade for both canines and their owners. Visitors and their furry friends can enjoy dog agility equipment and play zones. The SPCA Cincinnati is also set to construct a farm education and animal care facility adjacent to the dog park, enhancing the experience for all park visitors.
Fernbank Park is one of the best-kept secrets on the west side of town. Here, we can take a scenic walk along the Ohio River while Jax explores the sights and smells of nature. The tranquil surroundings and fresh air make it a great place for us all to unwind and enjoy some quality time together.
When we’re in the mood for a little more adventure, we love to pack up the car and head to Hocking Hills State Park. This serene and scenic destination offers an array of outdoor activities, from hiking through lush forests to exploring captivating caves and waterfalls. The tranquil atmosphere and breathtaking landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for a rejuvenating getaway. Hocking Hills never fails to enchant us with its natural beauty and sense of adventure, making it an ideal destination for an unforgettable escape.
