Mom’s Garden Mural: Community Pride in Colerain Township

Colerain Township has a vibrant new gem for everyone to enjoy. “Mom’s Garden,” the region’s longest mural and the second longest in all of Ohio, now spans an impressive 802 feet along the outer wall of Northgate Mall. This extraordinary work of art is not only a visual landmark, but also a powerful symbol of local pride, creativity, and collaboration in the heart of the township.

A Mom’s Love

Located on the north side of Cincinnati, Colerain Township is known for its strong sense of community and deep-rooted history — and this mural beautifully reflects both. Created by White Oak native Brian Beck of Acorn Umbrella Studios, “Mom’s Garden” is a vibrant tribute to the natural beauty found throughout the area. The mural includes over 100 hand-drawn illustrations of local flora, including native trees and flowers that have long been part of Colerain’s landscape. Beck’s inspiration was personal, stemming from his own mother’s love for gardening and nature, which makes the mural’s title and theme especially meaningful to local residents.

Community Collaboration

The process of bringing “Mom’s Garden” to life was as impressive as the finished product. Local artists and volunteers came together to dedicate hundreds of hours to painting and illustrating this freehand masterpiece. In total, the team used 40 gallons of paint and 100 cans of spray paint to complete the expansive mural, which stretches around the back side of Northgate Mall — a once-overlooked wall that is now bursting with color and energy.

But beyond its stunning visuals, the mural serves as a reminder of what makes Colerain Township such a special place: the power of people coming together. It’s a celebration of art, nature, and the connections that bind a community. Each brushstroke represents the dedication of local creatives and the shared vision to transform a blank wall into something truly inspiring. Whether you’re a longtime resident, a visitor to the mall, or simply driving by, “Mom’s Garden” invites you to pause, reflect, and appreciate the vibrant spirit of the township.

In addition to being a major public art installation, “Mom’s Garden” has quickly become a beloved destination for photos, art lovers, and community events. It’s also helping to elevate the visibility of Northgate Mall as a gathering space and point of pride for Colerain Township — a place where the past meets the future through creativity.
