The Friendly Stop Bar and Grill

The Friendly Stop Bar & Grill: Glendale’s Historic Hangout

Let me introduce you to one of my favorite spots, The Friendly Stop Bar & Grill, nestled in the charming historic district of Glendale, Ohio. As a proud west sider, I can’t help but appreciate the rich history and character that this place brings—not to mention the fantastic food!

Friendly Stop has been serving the community since it first opened its doors as a home in the early 1840s. I often think it’s incredible how places can evolve and yet retain their charm. In 1907, this cozy homestead transformed into a barbershop and tavern, setting the stage for over a century of community gatherings and memorable moments. It even had its stint as a speakeasy during Prohibition! Talk about a hidden gem with a storied past.

Every time Cathy and I walk through those doors, we can almost feel the spirits of the past—the laughter, the camaraderie, and the stories exchanged over a cold beverage. Did you know that Sandy Koufax signed his first pro contract right here? I often tell my friends that if the walls could talk, we’d get an earful of tales from hall-of-famer Ival Goodman, who once tended bar here. Imagine the sports legends and local characters who have shared a drink in this establishment!

Now, let’s talk about the food! The menu at Friendly Stop is simply irresistible. From their mouth-watering burgers to their delicious daily specials, you’ll find something to satisfy any craving. With a classic spirits menu—it’s the kind of selection that pairs perfectly with a casual Saturday evening spent with friends or loved ones.

Joe and Elise Mills, the current owners, have done an amazing job carrying forward the legacy. Their passion for hospitality and commitment to quality shines through in every dish they serve, making each visit a delight. You can often catch us there savoring their daily specials, swapping stories with other locals, and soaking up the friendly atmosphere that keeps us coming back time and again.

So, if you’re looking for a place that combines delicious food, rich history, and a welcoming environment, look no further than Friendly Stop Bar & Grill. Trust me, you’ll want to get in there and make some memories of your own. And who knows, you might just feel inspired to jot down your own stories to share with friends over a terrific meal.

Happy Eating!
