A Hiker’s Guide to Warren County: Trails, Treats, and Tranquility

As a local realtor and avid hiker in Warren County, Ohio, I love sharing the area’s natural beauty with others. There are numerous incredible parks and hiking trails waiting to be discovered. Forget the long lines of Kings Island or Great Wolf Lodge and reconnect with nature! With over 40,000 acres of designated natural space, it’s a haven for hikers, nature lovers, and anyone looking to slow down and explore. Here is my guide to Warren County’s best hiking.

Halls Creek Nature Preserve – Morrow, OH

One of my personal favorites is Halls Creek Nature Preserve, located in Morrow, just five minutes from my home. This serene trail follows along the creek and smaller streams, offering breathtaking views of wildflowers in the summertime. The path is a bit rugged and off the beaten path, making it ideal for those who enjoy a more adventurous, less-trafficked hike.

Parking: There is a small gravel lot at the trailhead off Stubbs Mills Road. Since it’s a lesser-known trail, parking is usually available.

Nearby Refreshments: Before or after your hike, stop by Miranda’s Ice Cream Shop in downtown Morrow for a sweet treat or grab a coffee at Kidd Coffee & Wine Bar.

Miller Ecological Park – Lebanon, OH

For a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle, head to Miller Ecological Park in Lebanon. This park boasts stunning prairies and wetlands, perfect for a peaceful nature walk. A variety of plants and animals make this a great place for birdwatching or photography. Miller Ecological Park also occasionally offers educational classes for families to learn more about local ecology. This one is a no-brainer on the list of Warren County’s best hiking spots.

Parking: Located off Miller Road, there is a spacious parking lot with easy access to the trail.

Nearby Refreshments: The Breakfast Club Cafe is a great stop for a post-hike brunch, while Doc’s Place offers a relaxing atmosphere with delicious food and drinks in downtown Lebanon.

Hisey Park – Waynesville, OH

Hisey Park is a hidden gem for nature lovers and history buffs alike. This 150-acre park offers trails that wind through lush woods, wetlands, and meadows, making it a wildlife enthusiast’s dream. Keep an eye out for deer, frogs, and unique reptiles! Geology lovers will appreciate the giant granite boulders scattered throughout the park—remnants of the glaciers that once covered this area over 12,000 years ago.

Parking: A designated parking lot is available off Corwin Road, providing easy access to the trails.

Nearby Refreshments: For a quick bite, stop by Gameday Grill and Patio in Waynesville. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, check out Waynesville Candy Shoppe for homemade fudge and nostalgic treats.

Caesar Creek State Park – Waynesville, OH

No hiking list for Warren County would be complete without mentioning Caesar Creek State Park. Just outside Waynesville, this massive 3,741-acre park is an outdoor adventurer’s dream and for sure one of Warren County’s best hiking spots! You’ll find everything from scenic waterfalls and dramatic rock gorges to an incredible 103-foot swinging bridge! With miles of trails for hiking and biking, it’s the perfect spot for a day-long nature adventure.

Parking: Multiple parking areas are available throughout the park, including near the Nature Center and the Flat Fork Day Use Area.

Nearby Refreshments: The Village Family Restaurant in Waynesville serves up classic comfort food, while Stone House Tavern offers great burgers and craft beers just a short drive away.
